This course is oriented towards identifying methods for teaching Children with Exceptionalities with special reference to the manual developed by the Special Education Unit of the Ministry of Education outline of procedures and practices that are in accordance with the Strategic Objective. One of the major goals of the course is that participants leave with a clear understanding of obligations under the Covenant of the Rights of the Child and the Child Care and Protection Act (2004). Emphasis will be placed on the teaching of exceptional children in the regular classroom against the discourse of inclusion and mainstreaming. Course content includes the use of practical material and methods for Special Education, Referrals, Assessment, IEP Development and Evaluation of students with disabilities.
